"I recently commissioned Tim at Pendigital to build me a new website for my art business. Going with him for my website was a no-brainer. I wasn’t disappointed, he put so many hours into creating the perfect site for me, that not only looks amazing but performs incredibly. He put in so much work behind the scenes to make sure everything loads as quickly as possible, and to make the site robust and user friendly. I had many requests along the way, which he was always more than happy to implement for me. I feel like I now have a website I can really be proud of. Thanks Tim!"

Would happily recommend them to anyone.
Overview
Statamic is a content management system (CMS) with super-powers. It delivers much of the flexibility people associate with WordPress, but with a cleaner architecture and a more modern editing experience. Statamic was designed as a CMS first rather than a blogging tool that got retro-fitted with forced-in functionality.
It's built on top of Laravel (a PHP framework for building web applications) so is fantastically extensible. As developers, we can add in a new bespoke extension without battling with WordPress architecture.
Statamic allows marketing websites and bespoke business systems to live within the same Laravel codebase.
It's also a very flexible CMS, use it...
- As a traditional CMS (i.e. frontend and backend)
- As a flat-file CMS - all your content in markdown, backed up to a repo.
- As a database powered CMS - your content in a database
- As a flat-file and database powered CMS
- As a headless CMS (i.e. a backend to your web app or native app) - why not pair with a Flutter native app, or a Angular web app frontend.
- As a static site generator, i.e. generating your front-end for hosting elsewhere. Why not pair with Eleventy.
In fact, flexibility is one of its super-strengths.
It adds up to be a very profitable choice for your business.
Profitable advantages for your business
This is why we love Statamic and why you should consider building your next development project with it.
Flat file security
You can use Statamic in flat-file mode; one of its most popular deployment models. This means that your content is stored in MarkDown files rather than a database. This is a security bonus. It means all your content is in files rather than a database. Files can be easily accessed and backed up to a remote repository.
Great editing experience
This is one of the greatest attributes that will win-over your marketing team.
- Build complex landing pages: The replicator functionality allows you to choose which HTML component goes where. Go with a summary block, then testimonial block, then a video and so on. Re-order them however you see fit.
- Live Preview: See your changes to your content in real-time
- Stay On-Brand: You get a page builder experience, without the risk of breaking branded components with style changes. I see this as a massive downside of WP page builders, there's simply too much control, a massive distraction for content editors.
WordPress functionality without the pain
Pain which equals higher costs of development, extra staff time, and monthly plugin bills. Statamic comes with a host of built-in functionality, including:
- Revisions: Roll back to previous versions
- Collections: Build collections, i.e. groups of related content, with ease. In WP, you'd either need to code Custom Post Types from scratch, or use a third-party plugin such as Advanced Custom Fields (ACF). Whilst ACF has a free-tier, generally, you'll need the pro paid-for version.
- Taxonomies: Easily add taxonomies to collections so that readers can micro-filter their content.
- Built-in Forms: No more wrestling with third-party form plugins that add a tonne of CSS and JS slowing your site down.
- Galleries: Galleries can live within your content, rather than in some distant, unconnected realm... somewhere in WP.
- Bespoke roles and permissions: Break free of the WP mould with roles and permissions that actually describe their true purpose.
- And much more...
Written in PHP
There's a very large range of hosting available in the UK for PHP sites. This gives you more options and a better value for money experience. We'd recommend hosting with Laravel Cloud, FortRabbit or a UK-based host such as Krystal.
PHP powers a large proportion of the web and remains the most widely deployed server-side language for websites. This reduces your tech stack risk, as there are more developers out there to help you.
Extensible - Laravel framework
Laravel is a framework for building web applications. Statamic is built using Laravel. This means that all the Laravel functionality is there, ready and waiting to be used for extending your Statamic website. Need a quotation tool that allows customers to receive PDF quotations automatically, and to alert the sales team? This is very achievable with Statamic.
Add-On Marketplace
Add-ons are a way to extend your site with optional third-party code, just like Wordpress plugins. If you need an extension to give rapid functionality then Add-Ons are the way to go. For example, if you need an e-commerce store, there's an Add-on for that. Need to create a documentation site, there's an Add-on for that too.
Why Pendigital + Statamic
We'd love to become your development partner for Statamic projects. You're in safe hands with Pendigital:
- Experience: We're two freelancers with more than 30+ years combined experience of web development. From frontend through to apps and backends. We apply a best-practice approach throughout all our projects.
- No Outsourcing: We don't outsource any of the development work. It means that you're dealing direct with the programmer building-out your features. No important details are lost between account manager and developer.
- Laravel: Laravel is our preferred backend system. We use it to build complex multi-tenant apps.
- SEO Focused: We also provide SEO services and are focused on ensuring your website creates value for your business.
- Website Speed: We're speed fanatics - read our articles here.
- Accessibility: And it makes our blood-boil when we see sites that are inaccessible. Read more about accessibility here.
- Sensible Use of AI: To use a carpentry analogy, we use AI as a power tool rather than a hand tool. It accelerates development whilst remaining within our coding standards, review processes and architectural patterns.
